Security and Fire Safety
Security personnel work
with the staff, patients and visitors to create a safe environment. Patients and
visitors may be asked to obtain a pass and sign in. If you need security
assistance, please ask you nurse or any member of the Delnor staff, or dial
ext. 4444.
The security department
operates 24 hours-a-day, seven days-a-week. We also have a full fire alarm
system throughout the hospital that alerts the security department to smoke
or fire. Surveillance cameras are focused on areas such as parking lots and
entrances. All hospital employees are issued identification badges, which
they are required to wear during their working day.
Smoking Policy
For your health
and safety, Delnor is a 'smoke free' campus, therefore, smoking is
not allowed by patients, visitors, employees or medical staff in any
hospital buildings or on hospital property, including entrances and exits.

Valuable or Lost Items
Patients are asked not to bring items of value to the hospital. If
you do bring a valuable item, it should be deposited in the safe in the security
office. You can reach security by pressing the security button on your phone or
by calling ext. 4444. The hospital does not accept responsibility for items of
value unless they are deposited in the safe.
If you wear dentures or a hearing aide(s), ask your nurse to
provide a special storage container. To prevent damage or loss, please do not
wrap them in tissue; put them on your food tray or in your bed.
Medications
While you're in the hospital, please inform your physician of any
medication you are taking, including: prescription medicines, over-the-counter
medicines, vitamins, herbal products and health food store products.
| The medication schedule you are normally on at home may differ from
that of the hospitals. Please discuss any concerns you might have with your
nurse.
|

To enhance medication safety, Delnor has implemented a bar-code
medication verification system. Each time you are given medication your nurse
will scan your wrist-band. This will ensure that you are the right patient,
receiving the right medication/dose at the right time.
Infection
Control
To protect our patients and visitors from infection, we strictly adhere to all
the recommended policies of the Centers for Disease Control, the World Health
Organization, and The Illinois Department of Health. All staff members follow
standard precautions to prevent the spread of
infections.
Members of our healthcare team who handle your blood or body fluids
will wear gloves. In addition, anyone who touches you during the course of
providing patient care will wash their hands and use hand
sanitizer.
To protect the patient/community, we may need to isolate patients we
suspect may have a particularly contagious disease. In such cases we ask visitors to
check in at the nursing station before entering the patient's room. Our
infection control staff will be glad to answer questions about isolation and
other precautions.
