 Diagnosis |
Delnor's Cancer Care Team offers the most advanced
diagnostic technologies to diagnose cancer. A specific diagnosis is imperative
to the development of an individualized treatment plan targeted specifically to
your cancer type and stage.
- Imaging - X-rays, ultrasounds, computed tomography (CT)
exams, positron emission
tomography (PET) scans, nuclear medicine, (such as bone scans) and magnetic resonance imaging
(MRI) tests are imaging modalities which provide
physicians with important diagnostic information about tumors. Delnor has the
most up-to-date imaging technology
available for
precision diagnoses.
- Endoscopy - An endoscope is a
flexible, fiberoptic tube used to assess and evaluate internal organs.
In a sedated patient, an endoscope can be used to evaluate the upper
gastrointestinal tract including the esophagus, duodenum and stomach
(endoscopy); it can be inserted into the rectum and colon (colonoscopy) to
examine those organs; or it can be inserted via the mouth through the trachea
into the lungs (bronchoscopy) to evaluate the lower respiratory tract. During
the procedure the physician can visualize the tissues, photograph the tissues
and obtain biopsies for cell identification and diagnostic purposes. Delnor
offers a complete range of endoscopic services for accurate diagnoses.
- Lab
Tests - Blood and urine tests provide important
information about many kinds of cancer. Delnor's has 24-hour state-of-the-art
labs with board-certified pathologists who are experienced at cancer
diagnosis.
- Biopsy - Biopsies are an invasive procedure
facilitating the collection of a specimen from a suspicious growth. The
specimen is studied by the pathologist to identify cells and confirm a
specific cancer diagnosis. Delnor has the technology and expertise to perform
the least invasive test that provides the most accurate, complete information,
including needle biopsy and Stereotactic Core Breast
Biopsy.
- Staging -The American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) developed the TNM
System for staging cancer, and doctors throughout the world use the system.
The 'T' relates to tumor. It indicates tumor size and depth/penetration of the
tumor. The 'N' stands for node. It indicates the number of lymph nodes with
cancer or the location of the cancer-involved lymph nodes. The 'M'
stands for metastasis. It indicates the spread of the cancer to other parts of
the body. Delnor's Cancer Care Team offers the most innovative approaches to
staging cancer.
