Delnor’s Special Care Nursery has earned the designation of Level II with Extended Capabilities from the State of Illinois.  This designation means that the state recognizes Delnor’s ability to care for low-birth-weight infants (2 pounds, 12 ounces or greater), premature infants (30 or more weeks gestation), and infants on mechanical ventilators.  Additional special care babies can also be cared for by the staff in consultation with Lutheran General Hospital, our perinatal resource center.

It is a great comfort for new parents to know that very few babies ever need to be transferred to specialized neonatal care centers.

Parents of every newborn that is cared for in the Special Care Nursery receive a bound journal in which they can record their thoughts, fears and hopes.
