In the mid-1970s, the improved ability to see inside the body with radiologic imaging and the development of tools such as balloon catheters gave rise to a new field of medicine called Interventional Radiology. Known to most people as the pioneers of cardiac angiography, interventional radiologists have developed new and profound ways of using their skills and resources to master a variety of minimally-invasive procedures. Interventional radiologists are now able to offer patients many new treatment options and alternatives to traditional treatments.
Interventional radiologists are board certified radiologists who are trained in interventions using guided imaging. These procedures are usually much less invasive and can be less costly than traditional surgery. Most interventional radiology procedures can be performed on an outpatient basis or require only a short hospital stay. General anesthesia is normally not required. Best of all, pain and recovery time are often significantly reduced for many patients.
Delnor’s Shodeen Vascular-Interventional Center offers some of the most advanced interventional procedures available.
