Quality. Defined. Our commitment to patient-centered care at Delnor.
The organization Planetree is named after the sycamore, also called the plane tree, which Hippocrates sat under when he taught medicine. At Delnor, implementing the Planetree model under the umbrella of our organization had a lot to do with teaching as well. In order to put Planetree principles into practice, the entire organization had to be inspired by the idea of patient-centered care.
In 2004, Delnor embarked on a journey--a journey spurred by our organization's commitment to achieving the highest levels in patient satisfaction. Our goal then, as it is today, is to make each patient feel cared for in the best possible way each time they receive healthcare services at Delnor. During this time, Delnor's patient satisfaction levels soared into the 90th percentile, and we began to realize that exceeding that goal meant more than just caring for the medical needs of our patients. It became clear that we needed to connect with patients on a variety of levels that included their emotional and spiritual needs. It would also require us to make sure that those same needs were met in our staff so that they would feel replenished and be able to provide a higher level of care to patients. As we looked for ways to meet these important needs, we discovered Planetree. An internationally recognized leader in the field of patient-centered care, Planetree's mission is to personalize, humanize and demystify the healthcare experience by promoting programs that heal and nurture the body, mind and spirit. It was exactly what we were looking for and fit into our culture of excellence.
Delnor became a Planetree affiliate in 2005. Teams of staff, physicians and former patients formed committees and set the wheels in motion. And in September 2008, after four years of hard work, Delnor achieved Planetree Designation. We are proud to be the sixth Planetree Designated hospitals in the United States and the first Planetree Designated hospital in the state of Illinois.
