Audiology
Noise-induced hearing loss is a preventable condition and simple steps can be taken to protect the inner ear from permanent damage.
Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) mandates employers to have a hearing conservation program in place to protect employees against harmful noise exposure that leads to hearing loss. It is important to emphasize that once hearing acuity is lost, it does not come back. The good news is that work related hearing loss is completely preventable.
Delnor's Occupational Health can help employers protect the hearing of their employees through the implementation of a hearing conservation program. The program provides evaluation of worksite noises, as well as testing employees' hearing levels. The program includes:
- Audiometric testing
- Employee education and training
- Engineering or administrative noise controls
- Hearing protection
- Noise measurement survey
- Program evaluation

Spirometry and Pulmonary Function Tests
Spirometry is the most basic and most frequently performed test to measure lung function; the ability to move air into and out of the lungs. The tests can be helpful in diagnosing lung diseases such as asthma, bronchitis, and determining what is causing shortness of breath. Pulmonary function testing can also enable doctors to understand how well treatments to improve lung function are working.
Using an instrument called a spirometer, the test is performed while the patient breathes in and out as quickly as possible into a measurement device. Specific measurements from the individual's test are then compared to a standardized set of values, thus comparing the individual's lung function against a norm.
Why the test is performed:
Pulmonary function tests are done to:
- Diagnose certain types of lung disease (especially asthma, bronchitis, and emphysema)
- Find the cause of shortness of breath
- Measure whether exposure to contaminants at work affects lung function
It also can be done to:
Assess the effect of medication
Measure progress in disease treatment/management

Respiratory Fit Testing
Whether for emergency personnel as first responders or employees in industrial chemical refineries, if your employees are required to wear protective masks or respiratory equipment, we can make sure it meets OSHA requirements.
We know the regulatory standards and understand that upholding required respiratory equipment guidelines is important it protecting the health and safety of your employees.
An employee who is required to use any respirator with negative or positive pressure tight fitting facepiece, needs to be fit tested with the same make, model, style and size of respirator that will be used.
Employees using tight-fitting facepiece respirators must pass an appropriate qualitative fit test (QLFT) of quantitative fit test (FNFT). The employer must ensure that an employee using a tight-fitting facepiece respirator is fit tested prior to the initial use of the respirator, whenever a difference respirator facepiece (size, style, model, or make) is used, and at least annually thereafter.
